City Creek Release Site, including the freshwaters of City Creek – DISCONTINUED
The release of hatchery king salmon smolt at the City Creek Release Site, located in District 8, was discontinued in 2022 due to funding, broodstock, and Stikine River wild king salmon stock concerns. Sport fishing in the City Creek Release Site remained open through 2025 to allow for harvest of these hatchery king salmon. As remaining hatchery king salmon returns are negligible, the City Creek Release Site, including the freshwaters of City Creek, will not open to king salmon retention until District 8 opens on July 15th, as stated in the advisory announcement released March 31, 2026.
- April 1 to July 14, 2026: The retention of king salmon is prohibited; any king salmon caught must be released immediately.
For sport fishing regulations in the Blind Slough/Wrangell Narrows Terminal Harvest Area, please see the separate advisory announcement specific to this location.
When special regulations for these hatchery areas expire, anglers may continue to fish under the regional king salmon bag, possession, and annual limits.
