Arctic lamprey (anadromous)	08/21/2025	Rearing Present

Comments: Nine larval Arctic Lamprey of various sizes (meaning several different age classes) were caught while electrofishing the Little Chena River at the Chena Hot Springs Road bridge upstream of the USGS stream gage. Shocking was confined to the limited wadeable space. Two other larval lampreys were observed but escaped our nets. Observers included Monica Blanchard, Jennifer Poirier, and myself. This outing was part of the Pacific Lamprey Conservation Initiative's workshop in Fairbanks, AK. Arctic Lamprey should be added to Little Chena River and is supported by their documented presence as larvae and spawning adults in the mainstem Chena River along with elsewhere in the Tanana and Yukon rivers.
